| Uke | To take. Name used for the person who is thrown. Receiver. |
| Ukemi | The ‘breakfall’. |
| Uki | To float. |
| Ura | Back, rear, reverse. |
| Ushiro | Behind, back of. |
| Utsuri | To change, move. To transfer. |
