Green Dragon Friendly in Jan.

This was the Annual Biggin Hill v Green Dragon,(Mick's other club), Friendly. 26 students from Biggin Hill attended which was brilliant. There were some excellent bouts, with a few surprises! It was really pleasing to see some of our new students try this event. Everyone got a medal and, this year, Biggin Hill took the trophy home. (Well, to our cabinet in the squash club.) Plans for July are well under way.
Well done everyone.

Biggin Hill Keeps Growing

In aid of reducing admin and improving insurance facilities, The Green Dragon Judo Club in Orpington is now registered as a secondary training centre for the Biggin Hill Judo Club. The Club are administered separately and Bob and Mick both remain on both individual committees.
The semi-merger does give both clubs other advantages that will be evident as the year progresses.

Useful Contacts

John Bartlett has taken up the Students representative role on the committee. If you have any suggestions or concerns then please talk to John, or email Jon.Bartlett@blueyonder.co.uk as an alternative to speaking to the Sensei's.

As per recommendations from NAKMAS(ngb) we now have a new Child Welfare Officer, Cathy Chalmers. Mick has been in this post for over two years now, but as he is one of the instructors it is recommended that someone more independent is assigned. If you have any concerns re the students, coaches, lessons, safety etc you can talk to Cathy Chalmers, confidentially, who has instructions on how to deal with any issue.Contact via Cathy@Buckley-consulting.co.uk or ring 07939 540478.
We feel the above positions will help keep our club a safe, open and fulfilling environment for children to learn.

Student of the Month and Jack Petchey Award
The Student of the Month, for December 2007, was Sibel Dejal..
Sibel is one of our regulars at the Saturday sessions and her enthusiasm is overpowering. An impressive ability for someone so new. She is always kind and polite to the other students and takes care of her younger brother when he's on the mat.
The Student of the Month, for January 2008, was Morgan Chalmers..
In the last couple of months, Morgan has really improved his fighting technique and is becoming a formidable opponent on the ground. He works hard in his lessons, in his training and application. Morgan more than impressed us all at the Green Dragon Friendly competition against bigger opponents. Really committed, always battling and a credit to the club.
The Student of the Month, for February 2008, is Bethany Cook..
Bethany has been selected by the Sensei's as she has shown a renewed commitment to her Judo and has shone above the rest; for her concentration, her brilliant attitude and great efforts. She listens well, doesn't always chatter!! but really tries hard and that is showing through in her improved Judo skills. A delight to teach.

Consideration is taken for Attendance, Attitude and personal Achievements. The 3 ‘A’s.

Will it be you next time??

Jack Petchey Endeavour Award Scheme.

This scheme is for the 11-25 year olds and is sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation.
The award is given in recognition of a students Effort, Endeavour and/or Exceptional achievement.
(The three ‘E’s).

Nominees are selected every three months and a brief statement regarding their eligibility published.
All the other students vote for the winner, however, a student may only win the award once.

The most recent winner for the Jack Petchey Endeavour award is:-
Oliver Wheeler: Winter 2007
Assists at both Wed and Sat clubs as acting Sempei whenever he can. Arrives early to help setup. Always there to help at the Displays and other club events despite difficult travelling arrangements. A super kata display.
Other Nominee was George who was only beaten by one vote.
Oliver is working with George to agree what the £300 from Jack Petchey Foundation will be used for this time.

Sophie Bartlett: Autumn 2007
Hannah Edridge: Summer 2007
Wayne McCarthy: Spring 2007
See the Archives for details. A big thank you to those students who take part by voting.

Future:-
The syllabus, now hopefully removed of all smelling errers,( I know), is getting a make-over. Completion by the end of the year. All going well, each item will link to relevant pages that will show the throws etc in video and moving graphic images to help remind you. In the mean time, please use the Judoinfo web site link on the links page. It's an awesome place to go.

I'd like to include your articles and comments if you want to submit them to Sensei Mick, or via the 'Contact' page above.

Stacks of fun stuff to add in as well, but first things first.
