BHJC visited Tatsfield Brownies for an hour and a half session. 24 Brownies all seemed to enjoy the session and no tears or injuries.

To help hold these events we would welcome any donations of jackets that are no longer needed.
Also, any parents with access to a Small van a couple of times a year would also be useful.
These events are aimed, primarily, at sharing our joy of Judo. We also get the odd extra student at the club as well.
(And don't we have some odd students [ED])

With kind permission of Darwin School, and John Burtonshaw, we spent a weekend redeveloping the storage area in the school for the Judo equipment.
Special thanks to Dennis for helping and bringing all the nail-guns, circular saws, jigsaws and ...and...and...
Also Mick and Bob.. Can he fix it... yes he can.

71+ people attended the Budo Day in April. Capoera was really good. Mick has a video to publish at some stage.

Awards for All, granted Biggin Hill Judo Club £5,000 to improve facilities and take Judo into the community.

The Grand Opening Ceremony for the new mats, on Wednesday 26th May, went really well. Both heads of the local Infant schools attended and watched some of the children practising their Display routines.

Mrs Clare Hannah, the Head of Biggin Hill Infants, held the tape whilst our other VIP, Dave Bardwell, cut a token piece of ribbon. Anne Smith, Head of Oaklands Infants, then got in the mat, donned a Judogi, and then threw Sensei Bob Marshall with a superb Morote-seio-nage. Next time Anne can cut the tape, promise!... With some childhood memories restored, drinks for everyone continued for a while longer. (hic.)

Dave Bardwell, 6th Dan, and a Management Committee Officer for NAKMAS, commented on the use of the projection system we aim to use regularly later in the year.
The £5,000 Lottery Grant has helped towards the cost of the new, state-of-the-art, mats and some funds are to be put towards other events and to getting our own projector. The night was very successful, we may even be coming to a school near you soon... Look Out.

£130 raised for Asthma Uk. Thank you for your kind donations.

It's a year since Sensei Bobs' 13 year-old son, James, died after a serious asthma attack. The last Judo session he came to, a few days before hand, we promised to get the Biggin Hill Judo Club website done. We argued a little about the length of the site name. In building the site, and investigating other judo sites for ideas, we realised we could get lottery funding to help replace the Judo mats. This site has been created, the new Mats purchased and James' has to take some of the credit.

May your God bless him.
Student of the Month - April 2006.
The student of the Month, for April 2006, was Rachel Williams. Consideration had been taken of her Attendance, Attitude and Achievements. The Three A's.
Rachel has represented the club in Competitions, earning Bronze against Darrick Wood and Silver at Shooters Hill. Hopefully a gold next time.
Rachel has attended all the Budo day events, helps put out the mat and Kamiza display and is a hard working member of the display team.
She jumped two grades in her recent grading tests after putting in a lot of effort.

Will it be you next time??

Quickest win of the day - Rachel Williams = 3 seconds. Brilliant (ED).
A long day, for those that waited to collect medals, but really friendly atmosphere. Everyone still smiling at the end.(Ish)
Now we have to do one of our own....watch this space....Sensei Allan is already touring local groups to drum up support.

A return 'Friendly' match against Sempei Micks other club in Orpington has been planned for Sunday 9th July. They want revenge. Nicely.

Two Budo days in the Autumn, one in Croydon, to mark the re-opening of the Croydon Dojo, and our own one. Location to be agreed. We've done it several times on the trot at Darwin Sports centre, and we do enjoy visiting other clubs.
More info when available. (Ed - Mick Williams)
Display Team News.
This will be our sixth year attending local events with our popular display team. Each year must better the last.

The team needs a mix of ages and abilities to act as a show case for the club.
We are looking to develop more set pieces and raise the tempo of some of the other parts of the display as we now have competition in the form of the Tae Kwon Do Club from Darwin at two of the displays. So club honour is at stake.

All videos and pictures from these events greatfully received.

Half day super-practice session went well on Sunday 21st May.

Times of the displays will be published on the Events pages

We may even have an extra one at the Darwin School Open day. Still in the planning stages at the moment.

Royal Variety Performance by invitation. (Well... if we get one I mean)
If you don't have a club badge, please see Sensei Bob as soon as possible.
