Annual Awards Night Fri 21st Nov.

Friday saw our second Awards Night ceremony at the squash club. Bigger and better than last time!
Starting the festivities between 5 and 7pm we had the updated Gladiator Duel contests in the courts, whilst the parents had a swift one, or three.
After the food at 7pm, we were privileged to be joined by Dave Barwell (6th Dan), who is head of Judo for NAKMAS (ngb). The following link should take you to the Facebook account setup to store pictures of our events.

Ten Pin Bowling afternoon.

Jessica Kellow decided to spend the £300 Jack Petchey award she won on this event. It was really nice to have a competition against Green Dragon Judo club, where, just for once, we were throwing Balls, rather than Judoka! By all accounts a great afternoon. Top score of the day was Laurie, with a 147. The next 6 top scores all went to Green Dragon.

Follow the News Archive link for past recipients or all awards.
The Student of the Month, for September 2008, was Laurence Burford..
Laurence has impressed the Sensei's with his efforts and hard work over the last few months and continues to shine. A pleasant student to teach.
November to be announced soon.
It could be you....!!
Consideration is taken for.. The 3 ‘A’s.
Attendance, Attitude and personal Achievements.
Will it be you next time??

This scheme is for the 11-25 year olds and is sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation.
The award is given in recognition of a students
Effort, Endeavour and/or Exceptional achievement.
(The three ‘E’s).

Nominees are selected every three months and a brief statement regarding their eligibility published.
All the other students vote for the winner, however, a student may only win the award once.

The 2008 winners for the Jack Petchey Endeavour award are:-
Laurie Hawkins: Autumn 2008 .
Has been a frequent assistant at our many external events; Buzz Clubs and School sessions. Laurie is still fairly new to the sport but has exceeded initial learning expectations and is always there to help with others. A great and pleasant personality and a good example to others.
Laurie's funding contributed to the cost of the Annual Presentation night and the Gladiator Duel game.
Shame he broke his arm and couln't have a go himself!!
Adam Michaelis: Summer 2008
Uke for the Sensei’s, has also assisted at various external events at Schools, Cubs and Buzz events to help promote Judo for Biggin Hill and the Green Dragon Judo Club. Adam also prepares the annual DVD for the Display team.
Adam has chosen to use his funding to purchase, and subsidise, some club T-Shirts with embroidered badges. More info soon.
Jessica Kellow: Spring 2008
For her commitment in the display team as well as organising the Stage Fighting session that everyone enjoyed. Jessica is one of our most regular attendees and is always there when help is required. A good standard of Judo for someone still fairly new, Jessica is a good role model for the others. As per the article above, Jessica's funding paid for the very enjoyable Ten-Pin Bowling competition.
Oliver Wheeler: Winter 2007
Oliver attends very regularly and also represented the club in all display team events. Although he was fairly new to Judo, he took up the challenge brilliantly. Very few students could complete, or even remember, the full Nage-No-Kata that he completed so well with Sophie.
Oliver used his funding to purchase our own electronic scoreboard.
A big thank you to those students who take part by voting.

Club Grading – Spring 2009 - TBA.
The last Grading on Sunday 9th November 2008 was held at the Squash Club, Jail lane. Opposite Darwin School.
This is seen now as the preferred venue, although it takes longer, it is less formal and far less scary.. for everyone, parents, students and Sensei's!!

All students should own their own judogi for the grading. Sensei Bob can get these in advance, at below shop prices, so get your details to him as soon as possible.

All students who have been attending for more than 12 weeks are expected to grade and to have taken out full membership after 4 weeks. Those who need to join, or renew, their membership to NAKMAS must get their forms from Sensei Bob well in time.

Students will be allocated a time to attend with similarly graded/aged students. Inform Sensei early if there are problems.

The next Grading will be around April 2009.. date to be confirmed.

Our thanks to the 2008 team members. Each received a Commemorative medallion and a Special DVD, cut to music, at the presentation night in November. Extra copies are available on request.

Future:-
The syllabus, now hopefully removed of all smelling errers,( I know), is getting a make-over. Completion by the end of the year. All going well, each item will link to relevant pages that will show the throws etc in video and moving graphic images to help remind you. In the mean time, please use the Judoinfo web site link on the links page. It's an awesome place to go.

I'd like to include your articles and comments if you want to submit them to Sensei Mick, or via the 'Contact' page above.

Stacks of fun stuff to add in as well, but first things first.
